I never learned (or paid attention) to geography in grade school, so I ordered this book to educate me - and I sing high praises for this volume. I learned quite a bit of general (not detailed or location specific) geography. The book is organized into five sections, each one dealing with a different region of the world. From the mountain ranges, to rivers, to lakes, bays, and oceans, this book provides so much information! For those of us, like me, who slept through geography class, this book will bring you up to par on a general overview of world geography. If you are interested in a more regional and detailed geography of a particular country, then I'd advise a specific book on that country. If you desire an easy to read and digest regional geography lesson, then this is the book for you.kone

it expands one's knowledge about the world as it include social and economic geography as well as physical. I'm not a student but I got it for my kids preparing for the Geography Bee and it enriches my knowledge every time I dip into it

This was required for my Geography class - and my teacher was one of it's authors! Very easy to read (as are most Idiot's Guides) and a great summary at the end of each section. The teacher was awesome, too! Get the teacher...umm....book as soon as possible!
