From the Inside Flap

Becoming a consistently successful trader is a tough job. It's a craft that requires extensive knowledge of the markets—involving a whole lot more than just finding the next great trading opportunity—and a process that addresses many aspects of both the market's, and your own, behavior. Nobody understands this better than author and longtime trader Peter Brandt. During his thirty-plus years in this field, he has made every mistake possible and learned some major lessons along the way. He also developed a set of guidelines, rules, and practices—which he refers to as the Factor Trading Plan—that direct his trading decisions. Now, in Diary of a Professional Commodity Trader, Brandt shares the experiences he has gained trading price charts over the years, and through a real-time journal—which spans an arbitrary time frame of 21 weeks (from December 2009 to April 2010)—skillfully shows how he goes about the difficult endeavor of trading the commodity and forex markets using classical charting principles. Divided into four comprehensive parts, this personal and unique guide clearly reveals the uncertainty and emotions that surround trading and details an effective approach towards speculation that will give you an edge. Page by page, it: Offers a real-time, play-by-play account of Brandt's trading activities—the good, the bad, and the ugly—during his 21-week journey, and provides valuable insights into market analysis, trade identification and selection, and risk management Highlights the basic building blocks of the author's Factor Trading Plan and examines how his plan continues to evolve with the markets Emphasizes the central role risk management plays in market speculation—an even more important role than market analysis or trade selection Reveals trading as a fundamental battle to overcome your basic human emotions And much more Unlike most books on this subject, which try to tell you how to trade, Diary of a Professional Commodity Trader offers a rare look at the realities of this discipline and provides you with a firm understanding of what it really takes to improve your performance over the long term.

I came across Peter Brandt via Twitter feed . His Wise and sage advice instantly attracted me. One of the first traits of a successful trader is being modest in his capabilities in predicting the market. Every serious and successful trader will testify to this truth. If you hear someone who is talking other wise, either he is not truthful or the big draw down is ahead of him.WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS BOOK:Everyone who reads the book is not going to find it useful. You got to be a trader who makes your decisions based on charts and chart patterns to find this book useful. If you are a buy and hold Buffett style trader, you will still find this book useful to a limited extend in determining a good entry point. Also if you are a young trader, please understand that there are lots of eyes and computers looking at the same chart and has made the efficacy of charts like head and shoulder less reliable than in the past, and is being mentioned in this book as well. If you are a swing trader, day trader or an options trader, you will only find the book useful to the trading advice and opinions suggested by the author ( and less of those H&S patterns which has to be readjusted to lesser time frame)WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT :The book is a printed trade journal about one man's trade with no ideas of what the outcome will be . Even if you find the repeating charts boring after a while, make sure to read and assimilate the first pages of every chapter. Those are general observations of a mindset of a trader who has survived the markets for thirty years. Not an easy feet. As an example on chapter 12,"The best a trader can do is to develop trading principles and guidelines that provide a slight edge - and then attempt to exploit that edge over time."CONS :Peter trades price, pure and simple. However if you are a newbie trader, trading price alone might get you into trouble. That is where Mind Over Markets: Power Trading with Market Generated Information, Updated Edition type approach is needed. Modern trading require Time Price And Opportunity analysis to get a mild edge over others.SOME QUOTES:It would be a disgrace to leave without his wonderful quotes peppered along the book:"Profit cannot be the direct focus of my attention because I have no control over the outcome of any given trade"" I a constantly studying and analyzing my trading performance"." Just like cancer and heart diseases are the two major killers in America, doubt and second guessing are the two major killers of a sound trading plan"" I have maintained a journal of my trading endeavors since 1981""Drawdowns are a way of life for a trader. Periods of capital draw down bring about tremendous introspection. When trading is going well, it is easy to think trading will never get bad again. When trading goes sour, it is difficult to remember the profitable times"TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS:This is a good book . If you are a beginner, read The New Trading for a Living: Psychology, Discipline, Trading Tools and Systems, Risk Control, Trade Management (Wiley Trading) . Also, try TASTYTRADE. It is a free website by Tom Sosnoff , founder of ThinkorSwim who is giving away brilliant pieces of research analysis and advice for free after big wins in his career. He is employing Data scientists, Research programmers, tons of back testing reports etc never even imaginable for a common man and giving away everything for free. His tradable and actionable content crushes CNBC. ( Nope, I am not paid by Tastytrade). He is proving to the world `option's is not reckless. While at tastytrade never miss their segments like Market Measures, Option Jive etc.The quality of research you get is unbelievable !SUMMARY:A very good book, worth reading.Even if you do not read the book, become his twitter follower. You will not regret it.

It’s a rare opportunity to get an inside look at the trading process of a legend. But that’s exactly what Peter L. Brandt (PLB) provides with his book Diary of a Professional Commodity Trader: Lessons from 21 Weeks of Real Trading. The title is self-explanatory. PLB takes you with him as he trades over a 21 week period of time. You see every trade, every profit, and every loss. The book is a front row seat to the thought process of a master who’s averaged over 40% compounded returns throughout his 40 year trading career. Most famous traders you hear about have a few good years and then blow out. They’re only known for their “big calls” and CNBC appearances. But PLB has been consistently making huge profits for four decades, through every market environment imaginable. This type of longevity is extremely uncommon. Most of us have read the Market Wizards series. The interviews are fantastic and packed with tons of useful knowledge. But in the end they are just interviews. Imagine actually being able to sit with one of the Wizards as they trade themselves. PLB provides that experience.Throughout the book you’ll see PLB give it to you straight. There’s no sensationalism. No promise of ridiculous returns. No bulls***. It’s REAL trading. You see exactly what a professional goes through, from emotional and psychological management all the way to actual trade management. There’s a ridiculous amount of useful information packed in this book, but a few key lessons stand out to our team at Macro Ops.One is PLB’s focus on trade management over every other aspect of his strategy. This flies directly in the face of what most investors believe successful trading consists of. A majority think it’s all about trade identification. That’s why you’ll see them jump from indicator to indicator, looking for some holy grail that’ll find them non-stop winners. This is not the way a professional operates. As PLB explains early on:“I will explore all of the trading components I believe are necessary for consistent success later in this book, but trade identification is the least important of all. In my opinion, learning the importance of managing losing trades is the single most important trading component.”“Consistently profitable commodity trading is not about discovering some magic way to find profitable trades.”PLB understands that identifying a trade is only 10% of the process. The other 90% is managing the trade once you’re in it. And when it comes to management, PLB knows that the name of the game is risk control. PLB again:“Consistently successful trading is founded on solid risk management.”The ability to keep your losses small will bring you success in the long-run. Avoiding that one big mistake that’ll permanently take you out of the market is key. As the old saying goes, the best offense is a great defense.PLB continually displays this reality throughout his book, especially when considering his number of winning trades versus losing trades. PLB’s long-term success rate for individual trades is only around 30%. That means that 70% of his trades wind up losers. So how is he still so profitable year after year? Strict risk management. The losses he takes are very small. His few winners more than make up for all of them. With a strategy like this, where a majority of your trades are losers, a focus on process is of utmost importance. As PLB explains:“Successful trading is the process of doing certain things over and over again with discipline and patience.”“It is possible to be profitable over time even though the majority of trading events will be losers. “Process” will trump the results of any given trade or series of trades.”It’s not easy psychologically to have 70% of your trades fail. Most traders wouldn’t be able to handle it. But PLB can because he’s so focused on process. He can have 8 losers in a row and still follow his plan. He knows that it’s not the next trade, or the next 10 trades, but the entire cycle that needs to play through. His hand is not only steadied by years of experience, but also by a true understanding of his own strategy. For example, PLB knows the exact average number of trades he should take each year. Not only that, but he also knows how many of each type of trade he should be taking. The number of major pattern trades. The number of minor pattern trades. He understands how each portion should play out within his broader strategy. In total he’ll experience about 235 trading events in a year. Only 75 (32%) will be profitable and just 20 of those 75 will make his bottom line. By bottom line he means the trades that are mainly responsible for his profits that year. Most of his winning trades will only serve to cancel out the losers. But 20 of them will be big winners that’ll significantly move his P&L.Understanding his strategy down to the number and types of trades gives PLB the ability to continually execute through any market environment. Strategies work in cycles, just like the market. They go through periods of major gains while also experiencing times of drawdown. The trick is to keep executing through both periods to complete the full cycle. If the strategy is sound, the net result should be positive, or in PLB’s case, extremely positive.PLB’s thorough comprehension of his strategy gives him the confidence to know when it’s working and when it’s not. As he explains:“I am constantly studying and analyzing my trading performance for two major reasons: to determine if my trading plan is in sync with the markets and to determine if I am in sync with my trading plan.”This introspection allows him to make the right decisions throughout each cycle. It also comes in handy when evolving his strategy over time. Many traders tend to switch their strategy too often, basing it off the last few trades. PLB on the other hand is very careful to make changes because he realizes the folly of over-optimizing to one environment or another. But even though he’s very cautious when it comes to switching things up, his careful study and analysis helps him make a change when it really counts. For example, price breakouts are not as reliable now as they were a few decades ago. PLB has been able to adapt his strategy accordingly. But you’ll never see him make the mistake of adjusting his strategy based off some temporary drawdown. That’s the advantage he’s earned from developing a full-cycle mentality in regards to his strategy. The other interesting thing about PLB is that he’s a pure chartist. He relies solely on price and nothing else, and with price alone he’s been able to achieve his superior trading record.PLB has a deep understanding of what price actually is and the proper way to use it. He explains that there’s nothing magical about chart patterns. They don’t predict the future. At anytime, he says he really has no idea where price is going. Charts are just used to develop a process. To establish targets, define risk, and determine broad direction. Nothing more. This falls right in with what we believe at Macro Ops. Price is really just a way to simplify the extreme complexity that markets create. It takes infinite amounts of information and distills it into one simple reading. Price isn’t magic and shouldn’t be used as such. The lessons learned from PLB’s Diary are priceless. Though we run a global macro strategy at Macro Ops, you can still see PLB’s influence in everything we do. He’s one of the best mentors out there and we strive each day to be as disciplined with our process and ultimately as profitable as him in the markets. If you want a master class in REAL trading, then Peter Brandt’s Diary of a Professional Commodity Trader: Lessons from 21 Weeks of Real Trading is for you.

I've been trading a long time and I feel much more comfortable with stocks than with futures but Peter has done a masterful job of explaining timeless wisdom with much humility. The thing I love about value is the evaluation of whether any idea can come from this book that would earn back the cost. In this book, any of Peter's idea can and will make you a ton of money. That is, if you work hard. Peter loves his craft and you can just tell that he really has a great process and system, for him. He even has the wisdom to say that the system is for him and you must find what is most comfortable for you. Great job Mr. Brandt, you truly are a market wizard !!!

I have been trading for many years in stocks and options and recently decided to trade futures only lose more money in a month than I had in years. At this point, I closed my account and started reading books about futures trading. However, I still felt I wasn't getting actionable information until I ready this book which has been the best investment I have made in terms of time and money. The first month after I read this book and resumed trading futures, I recouped my previous losses and now sitting on positive p&l. To those just starting out in futures, remember to have enough guts and cash to bear the drawdowns. The absolute 1 thing that dramatically changed my trading style is that I now look at weekly charts first to decide on trend. Only then I start looking at shorter term charts. In my opinion, this book is a 5 star book - the only reason I gave 4 stars is because it is very difficult to read the tables and charts on a kindle.

Leadership and Self-Deception uses an entertaining story about an executive facing challenges at work and at home to expose the precise psychological processes that conceal our true motivations and intentions from us and trap us in a “box” of endless self-justification. Most importantly, the book shows us the way out. The book’s central insight—that the key to leadership lays not in what we do, but in who we are—has proved to have powerful resonances not only for organizational leadership, but in readers’ personal lives as well. This new edition has been revised throughout to make the story more readable and compelling. And drawing on the extensive correspondence they’re received over the years the authors have added a section that outlines the many ways that readers have been using this book.

This book presents simple concepts in an overly complicated and convoluted way that may leaver the reader wondering, “Exactly what are they saying here?” When all the sand is swept away, the pearl of wisdom that remains is this idea: if you behave like an insensitive jerk, you will view others as objects, not people, and blame them for the problems possibly caused by your behavior, and will not realize how your actions are contributing to the problem. The solution is to be a thoughtful, considerate person who values the thoughts, feelings and opinions of others and does not run roughshod over them. If you are not sure if you are a jerk, look at your relationships with others. If you have widespread conflict in different areas of your lives: work, family, and friends, then you are probably acting like a jerk. If you have scattered conflicts from time to time with a few individuals, then chances are those people are the problem. The book does have an interesting anecdote about a man who is woken by his crying baby, and then lies there hoping his wife will address the baby’s needs, and when she doesn’t, he starts blaming her for being lazy and inconsiderate. The audience for the book appears to be hard charging executives who run roughshod over their subordinates and families. While most of the book points out the problems of how being in the box, as the term is used in the book, it does not really offer any details on how to change behavior. Instead it points people toward the sequel entitled “The Anatomy of Peace.” The ideas in this book are covered in a clear and direct way in the book “The Servant: A Simple Story about the True Essence of Leadership” by James C. Hunter. Both books are written using a fictional business executive who is having difficulties in his work and personal life, and through training by an enlightened person, realizes his problems and reforms his ways. While story is a useful way of delivering these concepts, I would like to see real-world examples of actual people who have been transformed by these realizations.

Perhaps you like the fictional story self-help book, where the author makes up a person, a company, and situations, and then uses this fiction to deliver a message. Personally, I don't like this style. First, it's entirely made up, so there's no fact or experience to base any conclusions on, it's entirely a work of fiction. Second, it's painfully badly written, the examples are incredibly overdone, the people quite clueless. Third, it's done to hide the lack of information in the book. By turning it into a story, it helps hide how little information is actually there. The information in this book could be expressed in a single chapter, maybe even a single page.Large consulting companies write throw away books like this for their seminars and to gain credibility for their consulting practices. That's why there is no author on the book, just "Arbinger Institute". Don't be fooled by the sales numbers, they probably all come from seminars they put on, that include the book in the price.Save your time.

As an executive coach, I use books as neutral way to get a person to think things through more deeply. Self-deception is a tough subject. It is not the role of a coach to make such judgments, yet it may be appropriate to provide material to challenge a person. This book was recommended to me by a fellow who was seriously self-deceptive. He and I have since recommended it to many others.Unlike many unlikable books that dwell too much on story more than bullet points, I found myself engrossed in this story. Living it out with the author over several days, maybe weeks of reading, helped bring it to life. This is a pretty gentle way to bring up and work through a very hard subject. Read it for yourself first. Change yourself before trying to change somebody else.

Maybe…this might be my most important book recommendation for you this year. The title…timely. The contents…convicting.Last week, while reflecting on issues of leadership character and humility, I found not one, but two copies on my bookshelf of “Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box.” I had never read the book (to my chagrin). So my wife read it first this weekend—and her praise was effusive. Then I read it. (Am I the only leader that missed this gem?) I should have read it years ago (and my former staff and family would agree). If you haven’t read the book—or leveraged the insights for your organization or family—drop everything and read “Leadership and Self-Deception.” Here’s why:REASON #1: SELF-DECEPTION IS RAMPANT. You don’t need this book to recognize how other leaders are blind to their own self-deception—but it will give you handles (and a practical metaphor) for understanding the blindness.REASON #2: I AM BLIND TO MY OWN BLINDNESS. Whew. (Did I mention “convicting” and serious gut-checking?) While trying to figure out the sin and self-deception in other leaders, I wondered, how did the authors insert mirrors on every convicting page?In Scott Rodin’s book, “The Steward Leader,” he reminds us, “If I could put one Bible verse on the desk of every pastor and every Christian leader in the world, it would be this: ‘If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us’ (1 John 1:8).”REASON #3: THE “BOX” METAPHOR. Powerful. Trust me—read and study this book with your team (and family) and you’ll be using the “box” metaphor within an hour. The second edition of “Leadership and Self-Deception” includes a short section on how to maximize the book’s impact. The authors list stunning (stunning!) examples of how the principles have transformed organizations (nonprofit and for-profit) and even police departments. In Japan, a word-of-mouth movement has launched “out-of-the-box” clubs. The business novel/fable/story format makes for an easy read (about three hours) with memorable characters, but—warning—it’s not a comfortable read.REASON #4: FAITH-BASED ALIGNMENT. While the principles of Leadership and Self-Deception are not faith-based per se—they actually are. For readers who are Christ-followers, you’ll salivate at the opportunity to integrate “Leadership and Self-Deception” with biblical wisdom. And speaking of alignment, you’ll appreciate how “Leadership and Self-Deception” enhances the insights, especially, of many other books I’ve reviewed, including The Cure: What if God isn't who you think He is and neither are you? The Advantage, Leaders Eat Last, Broken and Whole, Leading Me, Serve Strong, and What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There (to name just a few).REASON #5: REFRESHING HUMILITY—NO AUTHOR NAMES! Really! Published by The Arbinger Institute, these leaders practice what they preach—and share the credit for this book with all of their team members, including non-writers. Hence—author names are not revealed. (And note: the book has sold over one million copies.)So, could this book help you and your leadership team? Yes! From the authors: “…the myriad ways in which people have used this book and its ideas fall within five broad areas of application: “1) applicant screening and hiring, 2) leadership and team building, 3) conflict resolution, 4) accountability transformation, and 5) personal growth and development.”

wanted to read The City and the Stars after reading about it in Michael Benson’s book on the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey. And I felt in the mood for some classic science fiction.Clarke’s story is set in the far distant future, when the Earth has turned primarily to desert. The story begins in an isolated, self-contained city, Diaspar. In this distant future, social structures, political structures, and even the biology of the characters has long disconnected from our own. Life is all too stable and idyllic in Diaspar. The people of Diaspar know little to nothing of the Earth outside the city, and, in fact, show little curiosity about it or even their own history. Their lives are cyclic, being electronically infused into new (fully grown) bodies in life after life, with a kind of hamster-wheel feel. The plot involves the threat of destabilization. And here I liked very much the inherent monkey wrench that Clarke threw into the carefully planned life of Diaspar. Two elements — the role of a “Jester” and the role of “Uniques” assure that stability isn’t absolute, and that adaptation and change, while facing formidable barriers, can happen. The distance in time, the artificiality of life, and the unfamiliar but neatly drawn social structures give the book a kind of fantasy feel that i didn’t expect from Clarke. By contrast with the books I’m more familiar with, like Childhood’s End or Rendezvous with Rama, as well as 2001 itself, there’s less continuity between our own current lives and the characters’ lives here. There are technological elements, as in those other books, that are prophetic — virtual presence is a prominent feature — but even there, this is farther from “hard science fiction” than what I associate with Clarke. This is not my favorite of Clarke’s books. It ages well, but it doesn’t rate with the others I’ve mentioned — Rendezvous with Rama, Childhood’s End, 2001. The fantasy feel isn’t my thing, I have to admit. And there is, for Clarke, I think, an odd compression of the end of the story. The story really takes on an impressive galactic scale, but that vastly enlarging scale isn’t enacted or shown — it is actually told through one character’s speech. The speech outlines a story I would have liked to have read, as played out in a novel itself.

This book has not aged well, if it ever were good. The writing is tedious, with everything being “great“, either as in good, big, or bad, but always great. A random plot, if you even can call it one. Things happen, and Alvin solves all problems, because Alvin is great. It's about a teenager, as if written by a teenager. It's a billion years into the future, but people are still surprised when speech recognition works. I think that the billion years into the future thing is what I have the hardest time accepting, it's mentioned over and over again, but at the same time there is no reflection on how much would have had to happen over that time period. Mountains would have eroded and new continents would have formed, but it's as if everything has been on pause. A thousand years would have been enough to convey to the reader that a long time had passed, but instead it had to be the ludicrous number a billion. In the end everyone blindly trusts the words of a stranger and decides to over night rewrite their history and change their way of life, they've only cemented it over a billion years, but whatever.

"The City and the Stars" is a major work with a lively story and an imaginative view of the far distant future. Even a billion years in the future, humankind can fall into relatively dark ages where life falls into static patterns and man's spirit withers. In "The City and the Stars", Arthur C. Clarke envisions mankind having fallen into two cultural niches, each limited by their own approaches to life. Diaspar, a city in which some 10 million people lives have been extended by technology to 1000 years, and each life ends when its personality is encoded into a nearly omnipotent computer for later reincarnation, has become the womb of humanity. Earth itself has become a desert and Diaspar believes it is the only human remnant. However, another culture has survived in Lys, where human lifetimes are short and intense. The hero of this story is Alvin, a Unique, i.e., a person who has been created anew and faces life for the first time. Alvin is free of some of the cultural boundaries that limit Diasparans and, in particular, he is a free spirit who cannot resist the lure of experiences beyond the city. His explorations of the world outside and their consequences for Diaspar, Lys, and the future of humanity are the central features of the plot."The City..." is a major expansion published in 1956 of "Against the Fall of Night", which was published serially in 1948 and in book form in 1953. The former version has a very tightly focused plot dealing mainly with two aspects of the distant future: 1) description of the nature of technology and society in Clarke's vision of the distant future and 2) the explorations of its 20-year-old protagonist, Alvin, and the consequent disruptions that will apparently lead to renewed vigor and growth of humanity. This earlier version is a compelling story in its own right, and I have reviewed it separately at http://www.amazon.com/review/RV8G92FK092Y2/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm . "The City..." expands the earlier version while retaining the central plot line in nearly unchanged form, with greater depth in handling the two original themes, plus a number of additional themes. This version adds significantly in areas of psychology, sociology, and philosophy. This expansion elaborates on the motivations of the main characters and the cultures and increases the amount of food for thought."The City..." sacrifices the concise, driving style of "Against..." as an inevitable consequence of the additional themes, and the relative advantages of the different approaches will depend on your reading preferences. My recommendation is that "Against..." would be more fun for young readers (pre- and young-teen), while "The City..." would be the more enjoyable for most of the older crowd. One surprising thing occurred as I read the two novels back-to-back: as a scientist, I wasn't burdened by concerns of realism while reading "Against..."; oddly, perhaps because of its efforts towards greater realism, I was frequently inclined to evaluate ideas and events in "The City..." on a scale of ultimate likelihood!I recommend "The City and the Stars" for SciFi and Arthur C. Clarke fans. Given its far-future setting, wide-ranging ideas, and intriguing story, it should have continued appeal for the next 50 years.Clarke's best work, I think, is "Rendevous with Rama". Don't miss it. I'd also recommend Isaac Asimov's Foundation series; the original Foundation trilogy is roughly contemporary in writing with the early Clarke SciFi novels and most of the early and later Foundation books are compelling.

Great book. Beautiful paintings. Great ideas on what to paint, very colourful paintings. Lots of paintings. Very useful to loosen up your style and be more creative. It is not a step by step type of book, it gives tips and some explanations on the paintings but no steps. I was looking for a book to loosen up my style and this one I find it very useful, I wasn't looking for a step by step kind of book, so I am pleased with the book. I think it is for intermediate level if you want to tackle the paintings on your own. It could be for beginners who are taking lessons and use the paintings as inspiration or ideas on what to paint, since there are no step by step photos you would need a teacher if you are a beginner. I recommend this book.

Interesting book, explains processes well. Not a run of the mill art book.

Another great book by this artist. If you like loose landscapes and floral paintings get this book

Fabulous information for any average acrylic artist to encourage them to step outside the comfort zone and try something new.

My wife teaches a class and they use this book a lot. She really likes it and helps in her class.

Soraya French shows what beautiful paintings can be created with little composition and an explosions of colour. Her work has inspired me not to be so realistic.

I was able to look at several books about acrylics at the studio of a friend and decided to purchase this one. Though I have not read it all yet it has not disappointed. It covers a wide range of important (for me) topics, the medium of acrylic (advantages and disadvantages) itself, color, and the creative process of image making. There are also many examples of wonderful works by 5 different acrylic artists. Excellent resource.

This is a very exciting book with lots of ideas for using acrylics and other media such as acrylic inks. She shows how to incorporate many media to liven up your painting. She explains how she created each painting. Her DVD helps to show her free wheeling techniques that produce an interesting painting not a paint by number type of ordinary work. If you want to paint in a more loose style - this is the book.

As others have noted, this book is poorly edited. That aside, I can appreciate that the author seemed to be well intended. He wished to voice his anecdotal experience in helping women understand men. He touches on some valid points such as communication being a building block in a relationship. He cites the necessity of open, honest, authentic communication numerous times. I do agree with that point.Unfortunately, that's where my positive associates with the book end. The author constantly addresses the point, essentially, that you get what you give and that women should be introspective when addressing problems. While projection is obviously a problem, generally, it's not specific to women. Throughout the book he recommends women help manage their man's emotions. That men are essentially incapable of emotional regulation. An example of this belief would be when the author cites a study on alcoholism. The study notes that twice as many men have alcohol use disorders when compared to women of similar ages. The author determines this is the fault of women approaching men either incorrectly entirely or by not being empathetic to other situations a man may be facing (such as work, etc.). He recommends women *ask* before broaching subjects and respect that if a man doesn't want to discuss it that it's her responsibility to make him comfortable so he can be relaxed and open up.Overall, the author seems to be grossly unequal is his assignment of being introspective and responsible for ones own emotional regulation and depending on a partner to regulate emotions. He relies heavily on the idea that women must create a positive environment to receive a positive environment, and that maintenance of the positive environment falls completely on women. It seems most of his view points are based primarily on gender stereotype enforcement. I'm not a fan. Although well intended his advice is off-base and possibly damaging to creating healthy relationships.Disclaimer: I received this title for free in exchange for my unbiased, sincere review.

Wow, and I thought I was bad at writing! I cannot believe how terrible the grammatical errors in this book were. I am honestly surprised that this book even got published. I hate having to leave bad reviews especially when its someone’s livelihood, but whoever edited this books needs to get a new job. I also did not like the book besides the bad grammar. I felt like this book had so many double standards. How can you write a book and pretty much say that in order to understand a man, a man needs to be able to do this, but you cannot? I honestly couldn't even finish this book. I hope that no one actually thinks this book gives good advice. Please stay clear of Understanding Men: Know What He's Really Thinking, Show Him You're The One, Why Men Pull Away, Why He's Afraid To Commit & How To Read Him Like A Book (Relationship and Dating Advice for Women 1) book and find a better one! I bought this product at a discounted price in order to leave my honest and unbiased review.

***I read this as research for a book I'm currently writing***It started off well enough, though there were obvious issues with sentence structure, punctuation, etc early on. Still, I was giving it a shot. But the closer I got to the end, the more it just made me question all of it. It became less of how to understand men, and more of how to not being an annoying woman. Which I was still able to tolerate, as this is clearly meant for women who probably need help (if they're reading this for dating advice), but it was too contradictory to feel that way at the end. A rather long section about how men are afraid to approach women ends with a conclusion of (and I'm paraphrasing) it is on the woman to get the guy to approach, not him. Soooo, women can't be shy and afraid? Contradictions, or maybe I should say misconceptions, like that are frequent throughout. The two most infuriating sentences in the whole book:"A strong woman doesn't need her needs met; she just wants them met."***What does that mean? If it's a need I most certainly do need it met."And if you have issues with your body that's on you, so take responsibility for it and do something to change it."***To quote my note in my eBook here, "hella rude." Even if you try to take this nicely, what the hell? So your advice I'd to pamper this dude with positivity and smiles just so he might talk to me, but I got to get over my problems? *eye roll* If he's the mature guy you're talking about, he'll be man enough to deal with a real woman with a couple flaws and bad moods.

Like most "How to Find/Keep a Man" type books, it simplistically states the way to catch and keep a man is to do whatever he wants when he wants it, and never disagree or ask for anything for yourself. I've put it to the test and yes, men do respond very well to these tactics. Who wouldn't? What all these type books say is quite true. If you put him first without any expectations, he's yours. At least until he gets bored. How long can you do all this without receiving it in return? I'm more than willing to do this stuff IF a man can see his way to caring enough to learn what it takes to find/keep a good woman. At least it's free on Amazon, unlike the big bucks you'll pay for similar online programs that promise the same information and results. I recommend reading and using some of the "helpful" tips but don't buy into this as a way of life.
