This was a DNF for me. Both Hero and heroine were annoying: he, because he was so selfish and self-involved; she, because she was dumb and a doormat. Seriously, how did this book get so many 5 stars??? It isn't particularly witty or interesting, the plot is non-existent other than the separation aspect in the past, the dialogue is uninteresting and there is no depth anywhere. Finally, I gave up (and I hardly ever do that!) and put it down for good. This is my first book by this author and I'm guessing it will be my last.

New Book Boyfriend Alert!Helena Hunting has definitely delivered with a swoony hero in Ethan Kase. Although who are we kidding- she always delivers in the sexy book boyfriend category. The newest release features a second chance love story between the book’s main characters, Lilah and Ethan. For anyone who knows the heartache of a first love lost the story will resonate with truth and consequences of following your dreams. Hunting has the ability to weave beautifully deep and complex storylines while maintaining the sweetness, humor, and sexy times that we have all come to expect and relish in.It was evident from the first page that these characters were created with love and it was impossible not to instantly fall in love with them. The book started with Lilah having a rather challenging morning, and I felt like I was reading my own autobiography with as much as I could relate to her. She was a strong woman that was focusing on her dreams when a ghost- the ghost- of Ethan Kase returned to her life. Ethan is a professional hockey player that was dealing with a difficult time in his career while also dealing with a family issue that brought him and Lilah crashing back together, forcing them each to face their past, regardless of how painful it may be. Ethan had chosen hockey over his relationship with Lilah, and he definitely had to prove himself again to get her to know she could trust and count on him.In true Helena form there are some hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud and some super steamy scenes that made me swoon. There was a big twist in there that just kind of came out swinging, knocking me out with the completely unexpected nature of it and I loved how it worked into the story. The book was a perfect balance of sweet, sassy, sexy and angsty and I did not want it to end. Like at all. Like, I went and reread it.If you fell in love with the Pucked series there is a mention of those sexy Chicago boys, but this book is a standalone. It was like a hug from old friends when they popped up but Ethan is more than capable of standing on his own and he did in a big way.

Say hello to another swoon worthy romance! Helena brings back the heavy in the best way with The Good Luck Charm. A young romance ended too soon. A woman with a second broken heart and a man with a second chance.Ethan regrets the decision he made years ago to leave his first love behind. But its a tough choice for a young man between what if and what could be. He choose his dream career and left Lilah wondering just where they went wrong. Now he's back in town and it could be for good. He has to put some demons to rest before his life takes another turn downhill. Lilah's had the worst day filled with divorce papers, a second father's medical scare and now her first love is back in town. There's too much history for them to get along now. But Ethan's got more than just reconciliation on his mind. The light-hearted humor and wit that any HH fan knows is definitely present in TGLC. Ethan and Lilah, whether they're fighting or reminiscing, have the ability to outwit and go head to head with one another. But Hunting takes us back to her original romance feels of heavy story lines. These two have so much to get through from their past. Ethan's betrayal towards Lilah is built in layers of young ignorance. As Ethan tries to win back Lilah he unknowingly slips back into his old habits of depending on "rituals" to win games. Soon Lilah feels as if she's not just a woman to Ethan any more, but instead that he is with her out of habit in order to further the career he originally left her for.Prepare for love and heartbreak with this new romance. Lilah has to fight tooth and nail to decide what she truly wants and deserves. A failed marriage after a broken heart and a family that had abandoned her and her sister left her with a rough start. There's solace to Lilah's work but it too holds secrets. Ethan has to fight for the future he wants, be it Lilah or hockey. With twists and turns and hope for the future this romance has got it all. Fun, sex, laughter, heartbreak, sadness, and the reality of true love.

The Good Luck Charm is a complete standalone and while it does involve hockey, Helena did a great job making sure to make this story completely separate from what we have seen with the Pucked series. This book is slightly heavier than what we usually see from her, but there are some bits of humor sprinkled in at the right times. I find second chance romances interesting because I enjoy seeing how the characters run into one another again, how the past ties into the future, and what makes this go around better. And with strong dialogue and character depth Helena covers all of that in a very well thought out way. Definitely worth reading!

I was so excited to read Good Luck Charm. It’s a new hockey romance by Helena Hunting. Where the Pucked series is definitely more of a romcom, Good Luck Charm is more contemporary romance. I enjoyed it just the same.Lilah and Ethan were childhood sweethearts. Eight years after they broke up, Lilah is working as a nurse in their hometown and Ethan just got traded to a hockey team close to home. What if your first love is your soulmate?I really like liked that this story showed that there are other important areas of life than just romance. To be truly happy, you have to be fulfilled in each. There was definitely a twist or two that I didn’t see coming. Overall, I had fun reading this book. I can only hope that I one day read the story before Carmen and Dr. Lovely.I voluntarily read an early copy.

While this book might have been a valuable tool 10-15 years ago, I found it to be incredibly outdated. The author refers to the internet as this obscure thing that hardly anyone is using. Apparently the book has been updated, but I had trouble figuring out what exactly was updated in this edition. There are "practical" tips from other dietitians in the book, but they miss the mark because they don't reference the "new world" of virtual practice and blogging. I was hoping to find information about licensing, Telehealth and virtual counseling and none of that is there. I also found the book to lacking of actionable items. What are the exact steps needed to start a business?

Excellent

Amazon.com Review

Q&A with Alistair Croll, coauthor of "Lean Analytics: Use Data to Build a Better Startup Faster" Q. Why is your book timely-- what makes it important right now? A. There's been a flurry of startup activity made possible by the lowered barriers to entry of cloud computing, social media, and app platforms. But there's less accountability. If you look at the numbers, it's a bloodbath: you're almost certain to fail. One reason for this is that founders are delusional. But data doesn't lie, and the right data in the right place at the right time can change your business (to steal from Steward Brand.) That's what this book is about-- using data to build a better business faster. Q. What information do you hope that readers of your book will walk away with? A. We have a ton of concrete data-- ideas of what's normal; what metric to watch at what time; and so on. But more than any of this, we hope they'll come away with an experimental eye, realizing that they're not building a product. Instead, they're building a tool to figure out what product to build. Q. What's the most exciting and/ or important thing happening in your space? A. That nearly every mature industry is ripe for disruption. An entrepreneur, working within a host organization, can absolutely revitalize the business (as Procter & Gamble did when it introduced Swiffer, for example.) And a small business can tackle giants or entrenched competitors by being more agile (as Uber did to taxis, or Airbnb did to hotels.) Mops, taxis, and rentals aren't new. But they're hugely susceptible to change if it's applied in a measured, careful way.

Perfect Menu for the New to Entrepreneurial-ship ...I have encountered many GREAT new ideas throughout my career in Technology & Retail that never transitioned to reality, not because of lack of passion, but due to stunted entrepreneurial capability in the captain of the ship. LEAN ANALYTICS Use Data to Build a Better Startup Faster will enable the New to Entrepreneurial-ship, formally educated or not. If you are embarking or are already deep into a Start-Up adVenture, Alistair Croll & Benjamin Yoskovitz share with you what you to incorporate to be successful at reaching that end objective and do it faster, better and in the longer-term cheaper.Relevant evidence will help build confidence into the Start-Up enterprise; it will assist in validating what you already know, set direction and re-direction when it is needed - it will also help build the confidence of others in you & your Start-up to succeed. Understanding the value of establishing perception in others that will prove to be gateways to your Start-Up's success is a key element within the concepts shared and done in such a way that makes sense to the lay-person; you will not find a similar approach to this message in any of your typical analytics, statistics, performance management or six sigma book. There appears to be a magical-season for Start-Ups between bootstrapping and initial investment that will make or break the potential for that GREAT new idea to move through infancy; many all-out ignore data to assist in decision making and other become petrified by a drive for data perfection before setting direction. There are real risks to over/under complication; following the step laid out in this book will set you up to have a practical evolution in your relationship with measurable evidence. The only suggestion that I have (& the reason for 4 versus 5 stars) and that I will be doing for the Start-Ups that I work with is to have a summary map of the book that allows the reader to check-mark what they have already accomplished and move forward to that that section of the book that aligns to where they are in their evolution of their business. This recommendation speaks to the diversity of Start-Up businesses & their entrepreneurial capability that I believe this book was written for; the book is comprehensive in content for the audience, but usability for a population that wants to move fast may not get anchored in Chapter 1 and it would be a tragedy to lose the opportunity to enable the GREAT new ideas and the captains of the ships.

Lean Analytics is a great fit within the “Lean Startup” movement. The book provides a very comprehensive overview of the different metrics worth tracking and – most importantly – offers a clear rationale as to why certain metrics should be tracked for a specific business model at a given stage. Before going on to explore how metrics can be applied to different business models, the book does a great job in explaining what makes a good metric:Comparative – Being able to compare a metric to other time periods, groups of users, or competitors, helps you understand which way things are moving.Understandable – If people can’t remember it and discuss it, it’s much harder to turn a change in the data into a change in the culture.A ratio or a rate – Ratios or rates tend to be easier to act on, they are inherently comparative (see the first characteristic above) and they are good for comparing opposing factors.Changes the way you behave – What will you differently based on changes in the metric? The thing I liked most about Lean Analytics is that all of it makes perfect sense. The book provides a well thought through approach to making sense of something that can be complex and challenging at times: data.

The lean startup movement is entering an exciting new phase, with big picture theory + evocative anecdotes giving way to careful case studies and more refined analysis of how to apply lean as a management discipline. The O'Reilly Lean Series is of course central to this transformation, and this Lean Analytics book in particular is a fantastic contribution.I especially appreciated the clear exposition on key startup types (SaaS, E-Commerce, Media etc.) and the thorough analysis of what a customer funnel looks like for each model. If some of this material covers old ground, it does so in a fresh and easy-to-consume way that is valuable for novices and experienced practitioners alike. The case studies are also excellent and clearly reflect a significant amount of careful and passionate research. My one gripe for the book is that there is too much time spent on lean startup refresh. I understand the urge to get readers on the same page, but it seems unlikely that many readers of a "lean 2.0" book such as this would not have the basics down, and so some of the material feels a little basic and repetitive. I would have rather seen less intro theory and more deeper dives on advanced issues like different ways to approach cohort analysis. In any case, it's awesome work and well worth a read for anyone who cares about web analytics and applying lean in a systematic way.

This book is great. It gets the vanity metrics out of the way by defining what a good metric is, differentiates between business models and marketing tactics, and gives you the key metric you need to be focusing on based on the type of startup. It also references other important startup concepts that you need to get up to speed on - but while they were at it, they should have mentioned Crossing the Chasm (Geoffrey Moore).

I found it to be one of the most complete books on business performance management. From page one, you find yourself immersed in KPIs, metrics, various scenarios, giving you all the information that you need if you are serious about getting a business on the road. What I found to be the most valuable resource offered by this book was the way it presented the applicability of the LEAN methodology to performance management through real world case studies. Still, I would recommend this book as a reference, as you will most likely have to come back to certain parts due to its overwhelming amount of data and information that it contains.
