I felt like I was watching a lifetime movie on television with just a LITTLE bit of plot and a lot of really bad actors, only it was taking so much longer than two hours to finish it!!! A lot of this book was not even worth reading. My life is more interesting than these characters' lives much of the time, and my life's not all that interesting! The only part of this book that seemed somewhat like a plot was the poorly written drama with the ex and the drama w/ the daughter that all seemed like an afterthought. It was like the author suddenly realized that she needed some sort of actual storyline and some crisis. It didn't work. Found myself skimming pages throughout the book and had to force myself to finish it!!! I thought this book was very poorly written. If you want a mediocre read, this is the book for you. If you want a good read, I would pick something else! No way I would read book two! I'm not even sure it deserves two stars.
This was a fast read and "somewhat" enjoyable. A lot of it was "cheesy" and I skimmed through a lot of the belabored detail of some parts. It could have been better. The ending fell flat for me.
This is one talented author. Catherine can warm your heart and write a story of a wonderful sweet love that endured and lasted through a ten year seperation. Then she adds a scary vicious man who gets paroled that was the physically abusive father of our female lead, Zoe who managed to rise above her upbringing and become a famous tv and restaurant chef. The scary paroled moves back into the rundown home of his wife and mother to Zoe who is in the abuses woman cycle. Along with Zoe's younger adult siblings and an infant nephew. The suspense builds and twists as you are lead to believe he is definitely going to harm one of the three friends that include Zoe that are the !was a in this series. Catherine. Bybeeis an amazing story teller the likes of Julie Garwood and Jayne Ann Krentz.!
This is the first book in this series by Catherine Bybee and it doesn't disappoint. This is a wonderful small town romance. Mel and Wyatt are great characters that are surrounded by a cast of charming supporting characters as well. The love story has a bit of mystery mixed in and some snark and humor mixed in as well.Anyone looking for a nice spring time read will enjoy this book.
Melanie and her seven year old daughter, Hope, are on their way to River Bend, Or. She needs a new start in her life and that of her daughter, if only her car will make it that far from Bakersfield, Ca. When she left ten years ago, Melanie promised her friends Jo and Zoe, that she would return for their high school reunion. As her car sputters to a stop when she's ten minutes away, a handsome stranger offers his help. To make matters worse, it's pouring. After she denies his help, he calls the local sheriff, who only happens to be her best friend Jo.Wyatt is not one to let a woman in distress stranded on an isolated road. So he does the next best thing, call in the sheriff so she can offer assistance. As Melanie and Hope start to get their footing in River Bend, her ex and Hope's father, show up unexpectedly trying to make a claim to a daughter he never wanted. This wonderful story is definitely about second chances, but it also has some mystery to it, and a lot of loving.I received this as an ARC for an honest review
Wow. What a great book. This is the story of Melanie. When she graduated from high school her and her friends promise to all come back for their high school reunion. They all have big pans. Melanie meets a guy and has the most amazing daughter, Hope. After a few years they guy leaves them, but she keeps the beautiful princes.Wyatt is new to town, but is instantly attracted to Melanie. He wants to get to known her better. Nathan follows Melanie to town, and wants his daughter. But Mel knows something else is going on.Such a great book. Can't wait for Jo's and Zoe's book. Loved the characters and setting. Love small town stories.
Doing It Over is the first book in a new trilogy by Catherine Bybee. There is a lot to love about this book. A supportive sisterhood of friends, a beautiful town who look out for each other, an idealistic world where things can turn around if you just hold on long enough, and a little bit of mystery over an ex-husband causing problems. Reading this book felt like entering a new world, while floating on a cloud above everyone as you watched everything slowly unfold. I fell into these pages and enjoyed getting a glimpse into the lives of these women. I look forward to seeing Zoe and Luke fall down the rabbit hole in the next book.
Melanie was voted most likely to succeed in high school. Now, she is on her way back to River Bend to keep her promise to her best friends Jo and Zoe and Melanie is anything but a success. She is a college drop out, with a seven year old daughter, no husband, and a car that bites the dust before she reaches town.Things start looking up for her when she reunites with old friends and makes a new one. However, the sperm donor for her daughter, Hope, turns up and makes life miserable for awhile. This is the first book in a series. The characters are just quirky enough. The plot has lots of twists. I thought it was an enjoyable read.
