Such a good book! I truly enjoyed this read!

It’s rare for a YA novel to include morality, bullying and literary references -- while still being funny and easy to read. I breezed through this book, perhaps trying to run away from awkward middle school memories, but I found myself thinking about it for days after. I’d recommend “Fortunate” for all young adults, and their parents!  

Do yourself a favor and pick up this book. Terrific author.

Page after page of lovely cheese platter photos, accompanied by "recipes" to reproduce exactly the platters shown. Those "recipes" are unnecessarily specific; for example, "nine raspberries" might be an ingredient! A very small collection of actual recipes is included. Buying it is unnecessary: some casual scanning of pinterest would reveal an equally appealing set of photos, and googling "cheese platters" would fulfill any research needs!!!!

I love the style and ease of entertaining on a board. I have several board books and this is my favorite one. The examples are beautiful without being overly fussy. I particularly love the international section, which feels like a trip somewhere even if it's just cuisine and some local music. This is a simple way to serve a lot of people (or a few!) for some variety with a common theme. There's something for everyone and hosting means refilling things and actually enjoying conversations with company.

I am not the type of person who generally likes to read text books, but after reading this book, there may be some textbooks that are helpful. This books goes over almost everything that managers would encounter in the business world, and it explains the subjects in great detail. What I really liked about the book was that after explaining the material, the book would use real world experiences or cases to explain the application of the law. This is very helpful for someone who is not as familiar with how the law works.

The course this was required for (Legal Issues in Business) was challenging, but the textbook provided a clear understand of the subject matter and gave students the opportunity to excel in the beginnings of a business or legal degree.As there is always room for improvement, the things that could make this book even better are a price drop and additional international law examples/differences. Most of the content is U.S. in nature, although there are a few EU-related cases plus a smattering from elsewhere around the globe.

When looking at the description of the book words like "minor wear" and "unmarked with highlighter" came up, but when I received the item, that was far from reality. The front and back cover look like wolverine took his business law class frustrations out on it. And the inside of the book like a unicorn threw up inside it. I do not appreciate being lied to, I don't appreciate spending money on an item and getting something damn near useless.

The book came in a reasonable amount of time though it would have been great to set a side note that this book is the International Student Version rather than making one understand that it was the regular student version. Other than that, the book came in prime condition.

Unlike other texts that seem to be pre-law in focus, this text shows the linkages between the legal issues and the manager's concerns and decision making responsibilities.

Joseph Sheridan LeFanu (1814-1873) is regarded by many critics as the greatest master of the English ghost story. A product of the decaying Anglo-Irish culture of the early and middle nineteenth century, he sums up in his work better than any of his contemporaries the fears and dreads that may haunt the sensitive individual. The reasons for his preeminence are many. He was a remarkable craftsman, whose work has been admired by critics as varied as V. S. Pritchett and H. P. Lovecraft, Henry James and M. R. James. More imaginative and more perceptive than his contemporaries who worked in the same form, he achieved depths and dimensions of terror that still remain otherwise unexplored. And although he was Victorian in his dates, he was in many respects un-Victorian in his writing: his ideas looked both backward to the great supernatural tradition of Romantic fiction and forward to the modern age. LeFanu's work, unfortunately, has not been as well known generally as it should be. A few of his better stories have appeared often enough in anthologies, but much of his very best work has lain hidden, because of its inaccessibility. His contemporaries were more interested in his detective novels (including the unmatchable "Uncle Silas") and his realistic novels than in his supernatural work, with the result that many of his stories were neither reprinted in England nor ever printed at all in America. The present collection contains such favorites as "Carmilla," "The Familiar," "Green Tea," and "Schalken the Painter," as well as much otherwise unobtainable work. This is THE book to get on Le Fanu, especially if you're new to him. It was published in 1964 but no big deal since the author died in 1873.Weight, size, heft, and binding make it a good book for reading whether in the chair or in bed (best place for ghost stories!). Also, a very goodintroductory essay. These days most new readers are drawn to dip into Le Fanu to read, "Carmilla" and that's here too. Don't waste your cashon a Carmilla-only book since those cost almost as much as this one and you get lots more content including all his other classics as well as some rarities. Wish it were hardcover but I don't think most Dover books are. So great content, good quality make and feel make this a keeper!

For anyone who is looking for some excellent gothic ghost-stories,this is the book to start with.Le fanu is largely forgotten by today's reading public and the television absorbed culture.They don't know what their missing out on.Poe is the American grand-daddy of the mysterious horror story,yet the French-Irishman ,Sheridan LeFanu, is on the same level too.I can only recommend this gothic horror collection for all who what to be intellectually thrilled and pleasantly chilled .All before the witching hour surrenders,at the stroke of midnight,on the Eve of All-Hallows.For another year.Delicious reading for the Autumn season,til Samhain parts for another spell.-Beware of sleep,and Beware of Cats!

Probably the most distinguishing characteristic of LeFanu's writing to me is that he doesn't explain why something is happening in his stories. Ghosts search through drawers, skeletons are dug up, heroes disappear, and barons die of unseen causes, and we are never told what happened. LeFanu doesn't necessarily explain the motives and occurrences of his stories and loose ends are not all tied up. At first, I was unsure about what to think; what kind of ghost story doesn't explain all the events at the end? How am I supposed to be terrified if I don't know the ultimate cause of Baron X's demise? The method of storytelling began to grow on me, though, and I now feel that a lack of resolution on every issue creates a better story. Why should the supernatural be fully explained in 20 pages? When the reader is demoted from an omniscient viewpoint to that of only an eyewitness, the tale is more compelling.My favorite stories are probably "Sir Dominick's Bargain" and "An Authentic Narrative of a Haunted House," the former for its mood and atmosphere, and the latter for its minimalist telling. "The Haunted Baronet" is another excellent story, with strong attention to detail and background that help in the story-telling; it was a very satisfactory read. "The Fortunes of Sir Robert Ardagh" is the same story told sans background and detail, and is clearly inferior. The other stories I enjoyed based on the setting, which is 19th century Ireland, which evokes a mood much like James'. Overall, it is the sort of book that makes you wish for a warm fireplace and a stormy night.Enjoy!

Le Fanu is brilliant. If you like "ghost" stories a bit on the intellectual side you'll love this collection and his work. If you like Poe you'll love LeFanu.

These are great stories for bedtime reading. Compared to today's scary stories, these are elegant and inspired. If you have a taste for the fiction of bygone eras -- don't draw the line with today's best sellers -- you'll find a lot of magnificent writing. I'm still reading this book, and I plan to pass it around to all my pals. PBS and British Telly buffs will adore this book.

It would be difficult for me to choose a single favorite writer of ghost stories, but LeFanu is certainly in the running. He is often compared to M.R. James, but LeFanu's stories vary more in structure, length, and quality. While I think M.R. James is more consistently good, I also think that, at his best, LeFanu was better. He was an excellent prose stylist and these stories have aged surprisingly well.The most well known story in this volume is probably "Carmilla," though there are a few stories that I like more. "Schalken the Painter" is my favorite story in the collection, and one of my four or five favorite supernatural tales, period. I found myself thinking about it for days after reading it (I could say the same for "The Daemon Lover" by Shirley Jackson and "The Chimney" by Ramsey Campbell). This story illustrates LeFanu's powerful use of ambiguity: early on we're introduced to the mysterious Minheer Vanderhausen. In spite of his importance in what follows, by the end of the story we know little more about him than when he was introduced. Overexplanation can ruin a supernatural story, and LeFanu knew this well.This volume also contains all but one of the stories from the collection In a Glass Darkly, notably "Green Tea," "The Familiar" and "Carmilla." These stories supposedly come from the case studies of a Dr. Hesselius, a "metaphysical doctor" who's had many odd encounters over the years. "Green Tea" is a strange and profoundly sad tale that deserves its reputation as one of the greatest of all ghost stories. These are some of LeFanu's best stories, though admittedly I would prefer them without Hesseius's commentaries at the end.It's a shame that LeFanu isn't as well known as many other supernatural writers, because he's one of the very best of them. I should also say that I have a very old copy of this- it doesn't give a year of when it was printed, but the cover price is $2.00. It's a fine sewn-bound book that is still in great shape after decades of use. I don't know if Dover is still printing the book with that level of quality, but looking at the preview on Amazon I can see that the content has not changed.

I am an Arts Technology student. In some of my classes, the subject matter is about sound design using Max6 (Max/MSP). The tutorials that come with the software are close to being useless in actually understanding the software. When I found the first volume of Cipriani and Giri's book I purchased it in the hope of alleviating my confusion. It accomplished that and a whole lot more. I like the dual chapter format (theory/practice) which provides detailed instruction on what the chapter is about while coinciding with the how to. After having read volume 1 twice and implementing what I learned, I realized that I desperately wanted the next volume. I was very pleased that it was finally released and I bought it four days later. I am now half way through this volume and can hardly wait for the third volume. I highly recommend these books for anyone interested in learning about sound synthesis; especially those who are new to Max6.

This is a great book for Max users. Updated for Max 7. Not a big change if you have previous edition. Lot of technical info and useful examples.

I'm studying audio engineering at ITESM and Max is one of the programming languages that is used throughout the entire career.These two volumes are the absolute best resources I've found to learn not only this programming language but also found it to be a great resource for sound design. The examples in the book are explained with so much detail that sometimes I don't even use the externals that come with the books.I'm really looking forward to the third volume.

This series is probably the best resource of Max/MSP that you can buy.I haven't finished this one yet, but I already love it. I've learned more with Vol.1 (and a few hours into Vol.2) than a semester in college.I'll buy Vol.3 blindfolded, whenever it comes out.

Lost me with the claim that the Greeks looted the Royal Library at Alexandria. Alexandria did not exist until after Alexander conquered Egypt. Therefore there was no library to loot. That ideas were being exchanged throughout the Mediterranean world does not surprise me. That so much has been lost from various ancient libraries also does not surprise me. Paper burns. Insects chew. Ink runs in water.

A very interesting read, although the references can get lengthy, the message is clear. I admired Greek philosophy since I discovered it College, but they never taught us the origins of their teachings. This book encourages you to relearn what you have learned and dig deeper into Kemet to find the answers that were plagiarized by European culture. Goes to show you, nothing is new under the sun.

As a person interested in true history, I know better than most how hard it is to find works of uncorrupted facts. This is by far one of the most thoroughly researched and scholarly pieces of literature I have ever had the pleasure to read. There is a viable reference for every assertion made, and should you follow them you will see that Mr. James is in fact telling you the truth; that all greek philosophy is plagiarized Egyptian philosophy. When you search for the truth, you must be prepared to go against the tide. The mainstream will tell you things like Columbus traded peaceably with Native Americans, like Jesus is not at all based on the Kemetic god Horus, that the government has your best interest at heart, and that voting counts. The hard work of finding the true origins of greek philosophy has been made easy for you here, read and learn.

A thorough review of the early Greek philosophers writing with a detailed comparison to the Egyptian Mystery School teaching showing that the Greek writing were based on Egyptian material. This occurred after Alexander the Great conquered Egypt and acquired their library. It is suggested that the Greek philosophers were initiates in the Egyptian Mystery schools. The Egyptians were the laid the foundation for philosophy not the Greeks.

Author engages in a master- race fantasy without evidence. Esoteric mysteries arise in any person who follows the divine spark existing within ALL people. Truth has no border or race. Intellectually insulting. The reader is much harmed and degraded by the malignant logic exhibited in this work of what appears to be racial propoganda. Gives the reader many unknown or hidden facts that sets so-called common knowledge on it's ear. It really makes you want to study African and Greek history. Which culture actually made the history attributed to others? It points out how we have been bamboozled by early historians.

This book really has two different themes going. First, part of this review is based on the audiobook. The book has a lot of information in it, but it is almost just a compilation of information, with some assertions about the information sprinkled in here and there. I've managed to make it through some really dry audiobooks before, just through sheer will. One thing that will make my eyes glaze over, however, is someone reading lots of lists of things. That being said, the combination of the reader and the fact that it sounds like he is reading from wikipedia is just too much. The book is informative and I ended up purchasing the Kindle edition, just because it is a good compilation of material for those interested in this subject. I just couldn't go the audiobook route on this book.The first major theme of the book is that popular Greek philosophers were heavily influenced by Egyptian philosophy (or religion). The author would go so far as to say the philosophy was stolen from the Egyptians. While not an expert, having studied the Egyptian mystery religions pretty heavily, it is very clear that the Greeks were at least very influenced by the Egyptians. I'm not sure I would go so far as to say stolen, but certainly the connection between the two seem to be downplayed. It's somewhat likely that this connection is downplayed because the Western world doesn't want to admit the influence that the mystery religions had on Christianity.It isn't uncommon that a lot of people come into the mystery religions from one or more individual offshoots of it, and notice a comparison between it and Christianity. Further investigation then reveals, long before Christianity was a religion, a whole host of religions that held similar beliefs. Common elements include, a dying and resurrecting god man, who sometimes rises in three days; may or may have not journeyed to Hell to free people trapped there; born of a miraculous birth; performed miracles; may have been persecuted by authorities, etc.A couple of books that document this information fairly well are, "Christianity Before Christ, by John G. Jackson," and the extremely well documented, "The Jesus Mysteries: Was the "Original Jesus" a Pagan God?" by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy.Often it is hard to explain how these same similar themes popped up over and over again in such different localities and cultures. Stolen Legacy brings it all together very nicely. There were students of the mystery religions that traveled (from Egypt) to different locations to tell their myths (or spread their religions), and to make them easier to understand, the names were changed to fit the settings and cultures where they were being told. As explained, Zoroaster carried those mysteries into Greece, while Orpheus carried them into Thrace. In each of these places, these Egyptian mysteries assumed the names of different Gods in order to be adapted to local conditions. Hence in Asia they took the form of Mithra; in Samothrace, the form of the Mother of the Gods; in Boeotia, the form of Bacchus, in Crete the form of Jupiter, in Athens, the forms of Ceres and Proserpine." (Stolen Legacy p. 74)In isolation, it is hard to explain the similarities between all of these religions. When you understand that people purposely spread their religion to other cultures, changing the names to fit the audience as they went along, it suddenly starts to make a lot more sense.The second major theme of the book is that the ancient Egyptians were black. Unlike how Egyptian philosophy/religion influenced Greek philosophers, which is documented to some degree (though possibly ignored, too), this area is a little harder to confirm. Given that Egypt is physically located in Northern Africa, realistically, the chances that the Egyptians looked like white Americans is pretty slim. In reality, it seems like we are more likely arguing over shades of brown.For interesting information in this area, look up an article from National Geographic entitled, "The Black Pharaohs." It details a series of "Nubian kings who ruled over all of Egypt for three-quarters of a century as that country’s 25th dynasty." But little has been known about these rulers until the last four decades, as they seem to have almost been erased from history (Images of Piye on the elaborate granite slabs, or stelae, memorializing his conquest of Egypt have long since been chiseled away). As the article concludes, "the black pharaohs didn’t appear out of nowhere. They sprang from a robust African civilization that had flourished on the southern banks of the Nile for 2,500 years, going back at least as far as the first Egyptian dynasty."Honestly, this is so far out of any area I have looked into before, it's hard to weigh in on the subject and expect to be taken seriously. That being said, the author of Stolen Legacy makes a lot of good points and as far as skin color is concerned, he makes a good case. Like I said, I feel like any bickering here is over how dark they were, because white Caucasians, they obviously weren't.In the end, I found the compilation of all the material of value, even though I'm unsure of every single aspect of the book being absolutely true.

Thoroughly enjoyable, a critical work and viable reference for those who may question the belief that African people have not made any contributions to society.It shatters the stereotype and falsehood that has allowed some to romanticize with so called Roman Philosophy.Common sense and a little logic should be more than enough to squash the nonsensical belief of African inferiority but historical propaganda ,fear and ignorance have led many astray with false notions of superiority. This book does what we in the conscious community have known for years and have tried to wake up the AA community toyour True Legacy, peace
