Lost me with the claim that the Greeks looted the Royal Library at Alexandria. Alexandria did not exist until after Alexander conquered Egypt. Therefore there was no library to loot. That ideas were being exchanged throughout the Mediterranean world does not surprise me. That so much has been lost from various ancient libraries also does not surprise me. Paper burns. Insects chew. Ink runs in water.

A very interesting read, although the references can get lengthy, the message is clear. I admired Greek philosophy since I discovered it College, but they never taught us the origins of their teachings. This book encourages you to relearn what you have learned and dig deeper into Kemet to find the answers that were plagiarized by European culture. Goes to show you, nothing is new under the sun.

As a person interested in true history, I know better than most how hard it is to find works of uncorrupted facts. This is by far one of the most thoroughly researched and scholarly pieces of literature I have ever had the pleasure to read. There is a viable reference for every assertion made, and should you follow them you will see that Mr. James is in fact telling you the truth; that all greek philosophy is plagiarized Egyptian philosophy. When you search for the truth, you must be prepared to go against the tide. The mainstream will tell you things like Columbus traded peaceably with Native Americans, like Jesus is not at all based on the Kemetic god Horus, that the government has your best interest at heart, and that voting counts. This occurred after Alexander the Great conquered Egypt and acquired their library. It is suggested that the Greek philosophers were initiates in the Egyptian Mystery schools. The Egyptians were the laid the foundation for philosophy not the Greeks.

This book really has two different themes going. First, part of this review is based on the audiobook. The book has a lot of information in it, but it is almost just a compilation of information, with some assertions about the information sprinkled in here and there. I've managed to make it through some really dry audiobooks before, just through sheer will. One thing that will make my eyes glaze over, however, is someone reading lots of lists of things. That being said, the combination of the reader and the fact that it sounds like he is reading from wikipedia is just too much. The book is informative and I ended up purchasing the Kindle edition, just because it is a good compilation of material for those interested in this subject. I just couldn't go the audiobook route on this book.The first major theme of the book is that popular Greek philosophers were heavily influenced by Egyptian philosophy (or religion). The author would go so far as to say the philosophy was stolen from the Egyptians. While not an expert, having studied the Egyptian mystery religions pretty heavily, it is very clear that the Greeks were at least very influenced by the Egyptians. I'm not sure I would go so far as to say stolen, but certainly the connection between the two seem to be downplayed. It's somewhat likely that this connection is downplayed because the Western world doesn't want to admit the influence that the mystery religions had on Christianity.It isn't uncommon that a lot of people come into the mystery religions from one or more individual offshoots of it, and notice a comparison between it and Christianity. Further investigation then reveals, long before Christianity was a religion, a whole host of religions that held similar beliefs. Common elements include, a dying and resurrecting god man, who sometimes rises in three days; may or may have not journeyed to Hell to free people trapped there; born of a miraculous birth; performed miracles; may have been persecuted by authorities, etc.A couple of books that document this information fairly well are, "Christianity Before Christ, by John G. Jackson," and the extremely well documented, "The Jesus Mysteries: Was the "Original Jesus" a Pagan God?" by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy.Often it is hard to explain how these same similar themes popped up over and over again in such different localities and cultures. Stolen Legacy brings it all together very nicely. There were students of the mystery religions that traveled (from Egypt) to different locations to tell their myths (or spread their religions), and to make them easier to understand, the names were changed to fit the settings and cultures where they were being told. As explained, Zoroaster carried those mysteries into Greece, while Orpheus carried them into Thrace. In each of these places, these Egyptian mysteries assumed the names of different Gods in order to be adapted to local conditions. Hence in Asia they took the form of Mithra; in Samothrace, the form of the Mother of the Gods; in Boeotia, the form of Bacchus, in Crete the form of Jupiter, in Athens, the forms of Ceres and Proserpine." (Stolen Legacy p. 74)In isolation, it is hard to explain the similarities between all of these religions. When you understand that people purposely spread their religion to other cultures, changing the names to fit the audience as they went along, it suddenly starts to make a lot more sense.The second major theme of the book is that the ancient Egyptians were black. Unlike how Egyptian philosophy/religion influenced Greek philosophers, which is documented to some degree (though possibly ignored, too), this area is a little harder to confirm. Given that Egypt is physically located in Northern Africa, realistically, the chances that the Egyptians looked like white Americans is pretty slim. In reality, it seems like we are more likely arguing over shades of brown.For interesting information in this area, look up an article from National Geographic entitled, "The Black Pharaohs." It details a series of "Nubian kings who ruled over all of Egypt for three-quarters of a century as that country’s 25th dynasty." But little has been known about these rulers until the last four decades, as they seem to have almost been erased from history (Images of Piye on the elaborate granite slabs, or stelae, memorializing his conquest of Egypt have long since been chiseled away). As the article concludes, "the black pharaohs didn’t appear out of nowhere. They sprang from a robust African civilization that had flourished on the southern banks of the Nile for 2,500 years, going back at least as far as the first Egyptian dynasty."Honestly, this is so far out of any area I have looked into before, it's hard to weigh in on the subject and expect to be taken seriously. That being said, the author of Stolen Legacy makes a lot of good points and as far as skin color is concerned, he makes a good case. Like I said, I feel like any bickering here is over how dark they were, because white Caucasians, they obviously weren't.In the end, I found the compilation of all the material of value, even though I'm unsure of every single aspect of the book being absolutely true.

Thoroughly enjoyable, a critical work and viable reference for those who may question the belief that African people have not made any contributions to society.It shatters the stereotype and falsehood that has allowed some to romanticize with so called Roman Philosophy.Common sense and a little logic should be more than enough to squash the nonsensical belief of African inferiority but historical propaganda ,fear and ignorance have led many astray with false notions of superiority. This book does what we in the conscious community have known for years and have tried to wake up the AA community toyour True Legacy, peace

My husband and I were fortunate to visit the Loire Valley in 2013. We spent four nights there, giving us three full days to visit some of the castles. We actually toured seven castles and by the end of the third day we were all "castled out"! Each caste has its unique beauty and history. It's hard to choose which castles to visit since there are so many to choose from. Before my trip I did research on the area to help me decide.This book is a good supplement to a more detailed travel guide on the Loire Valley as well as the Burgundy region. There are four road trips detailed in this book: Chateaux of the Loire (5 days), Caves & Cellars of the Loire (3 days), Medieval Burgundy (6 days) and Route des Grands Crus (for the wine lover) (2 days). The second half of the book focuses on additional destinations for both the Loire Valley and the Burgundy region.If you only plan on seeing two or three castles, on top of my list would be Chateau de Chambord for its sheer magnificent over the top architecture. Another castle not to be missed is Chateau de Villandry for its extravagant and colorful gardens (we were there in September and the flowers were in full bloom). If you visit Chateau D'Amboise make sure you also visit Le Clos Luce, it's just up the street in Amboise and it's the manor house where Leonardo da Vinci spent the final years of his life. The best part of da Vinci's manor is down in the basement where there are many sketches, scale models and other interesting things he created are displayed for the public. In its courtyard there are a couple of restaurants where you can take a break from all the touring and have a relaxing lunch outdoors with some local wine.As far as transportation goes, after spending a few days in Paris, when it was time to leave we picked up a rental car and drove to the Loire Valley since many of these castles are not near public transportation or railways. It took us approximately two hours to get there from Paris and it was actually a pleasant drive; once we left Paris, the highway opened up and there was no traffic.This book is small and compact enough to take it with you as you explore these beautiful regions of France.

This is a good, compact travel guide to the Loire Valley and Burgundy by cars, sightseeing the famous châteaux, wines and medieval architecture, and enjoying great local food and wine along the way. I have always been fascinated by the beautiful and magnificent châteaux in France. This travel really stirs up a desire within me to actually plan for a road trip to these French destinations.This book is a road trip guide. You will be renting a car and doing some serious driving in the country. Such that, this compact guide is best used as a companion to a full-size travel guide and detailed researches of the places you want to go to and how to go there. You'll also need a bigger map of the Loire Valley and Burgundy areas, and perhaps a GPS system to help you with the navigation.This book is mainly divided into four parts: Plan for You Trip, Road Trips, Destinations and Road Trip Essentials. The first part is just an introductory map and highlights for the Loire Valley and Burgundy, and a quick guide to Paris as a typical starting point for your trip.The second part contains in details four popular roads trips of various duration and length that you may take: Châteaux of the Loire (5 days, 140 miles), Caves & Cellars of the Loire (3 days, 100 miles), Medieval Burgundy (6 days, 203 miles) and Route des Grands Crus (2 days, 38 miles). These are good sample routes along some of the most popular destinations in the areas.The third part is a detailed collection of the popular destinations in the Loire Valley and Burgundy. For instance, Château de Chambord and Château de Villandry would be the top two destinations I would definitely pick for my own trip. This part of the book contains good introduction and information about each destination, what to see and how to best take advantage of your visit there, as well as local tours, activities, eating, and sleeping in the nearby areas.The last part of the book contains essential information about driving and traveling in France. It has good advice for the first time traveler in the country. A folded, pull-out driving map is enclosed at the back. The map is small and not very detailed. I would suggest picking up a larger map(s) once you arrive in France.Overall, this is a good companion guide to your road trip in the Loire Valley and Burgundy. It is best used as a supplement to your detailed research or full size travel guide. There are some good information on road trip routes and destinations that should get your excited and to get started.

We had a trip to the south of France planned several years ago to celebrate one of those round birthdays when a family crisis led us to cancel it. We have not stopped thinking about it since. Our original destination was the Dordogne and the Lasceaux caves which are now closed to the public. As I looked around the area I realzed there was a good deal more to see. As we are revisiting this trip I picked up all of the Lonely planet road trip guides for the south of France.I have said in other reviews that I generally buy one guide for planning and one to take along. The huge amount of information available online has nearly obsolesced the former, while these guides are among thwe best I have seen in the latter category. Each has a pull out map with the road trip highlighted, detail maps for each area, restaurant and hotel recommendations, some history, and insider tips which point up little things you might otherwise miss. Each has a brief section on Paris, useful phrases and a guide to road signs.This guide has information of Burgandy and the Loire valley. It has road trips focused on the chatauex, the caves and cellers of the Loire, Medeival Burgandy and a route Des Grand Cru.I think we are going to need a lot more time than we had originally planned.The Loire is one of the richest regions for gourmets and wine lovers. They point out the top wines o the region, wineries which do tours, as well a sights along the way. A good deal of detail is provided on the chataux providing context and history. The Medieval route looks like it would be interesting just for the architecture.They manage to do this in a very compact guide which is easy to carry, almost pocketable. This series provides the best pocket size guides I have seen yet. think I will not be stopping tat AAA before ths trip.

I am a practicing physician.This book has adequate detail, but compartmentalizes anatomy, often not labeling pertinent surrounding structures. To fully understand the findings you will need to utilize a separate anatomy book and/or internet searches.His Atlas of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine unfortunately also had many labeling errors and anatomic errors.Also there are many minor errors on the diagrams. I found it to be rather sloppy and disappointing for a detail oriented clinician.It became obvious to me that Dr Stoller is a radiologist and not an orthopedist.The errors are either a reflection of ignorance or very poor editing/reviewing with the use of lesser knowledgeable clinicians to write the bulk of the material.A Family Physician with interest in Sports Medicine should not have identified the amount of errors seen in this series of books.I would be interested to know of any other literature; besides Gray's anatomy, that has higher quality details without sloppy publishing errors.

This book is incredible! I followed Doug's methods, and now I am turning out work that is leagues better than before.Firstly, the book teaches you to draw sci-fi machinery. Maybe you thought you had to go to engineering school to work out the drive-train for a walking tank or a rocket-powered aircraft? Well, the book teaches you to invent and draw all the mechanisms and pseudo-engineering that make sci-fi machines look realistic. And Doug makes it fun. It takes practice, but he gives you simple guidlines to work it out. For example, you would use an actual photo of a tractor engine and drive-train construction to develop the design for the leg mechanisms of a walking robot, etc.Secondly, this book does not cover 3-D digital imagery/auto-CAD/computer-generated-imagery. It does cover digital painting, but only as a method to color render designs; usually first rendered on paper in black-and-white. The book focuses on developing designs on paper, first.The author often draws the designs on paper with full tone rendering, and then he scans them into the computer, and renders effects, color, texture, background, error correction, and much much more.There isn't a great depth of technique discussion on digital painting, but the book does much to specifically detail many fundamentals of digital painting, with screen-shots to teach many tools and tips and tricks of digital painting. Still, it is the focus on paper-drawing that is exactly what I was looking for.The methods are easy and versitile; yielding quite varied styles.The author varies the sequence and combinations of mediums and techniques depending on the subject to be rendered. The mediums covered are blueline pencil, varied strengths of cool-grey markers (20%, 40%, 60%), a simple airbrush technique for background haze effects (optional), and finally digital painting 101. I was able to follow the majority of the digitial painting methods without using a computer drawing tablet! But, I have now purchased one, so my quality should improve all the more.The paper-based methods covered in the book have been staples in concept-drawing for decades, apparently. After viewing the book, I now recognize the techniques in concept-design drawings going back to the 80's.The book covers many wheeled machines, space-ships, an ornithopter, 2 jet-fighters, and more, but the author is obsessed with walking machines/tanks/robots of all sorts. Personally, I think walking machines are a silly concept (1 leg down, and it ceases), but I have no complaints about this book!The author discusses the impracticality of walking-machines, and windows on a spaceship, and a steam-powered tank, but his focus is on aesthetic design, iconic design, and sellable designs. He's got to sell his designs to get them on the big-screen, afterall. You will appreciate and learn and enhance your own design ability!Lastly, the book has a really strong plastic-coated dust-jacket that seems to hold up against abuse of all sorts, and the pages are printed in super high quality resolution of strong paper.

Ok, this book is ok for the money, but is not a must have imo. The final results of the exercises are not master pieces by any means as some of Chiang work. And after following some examples, the others are pretty much the same stuff but with a diferent subject. It looks like he just put the minimun energy in this book to make it decent and to mantain his reputation, but i can't see a great compromise for giving all the information he could. I might be wrong of course. So, don't have big hopes with this books, and for 16 dollars is ok, you will learn some things.

After reading the author note at the beginning of the book the rest of the lessons fell in place. Chiang goes into concept design so clearly that I started to wonder,"Why didn't I think of that!" (Chiang's 20 years of experience will make you FEEL like that.) There is great insight into his process of science fiction design to the point where it made me eager to start some projects of my own. There is also a couple of great Photoshop tips you can use for digital painting which was made to be very simple. All I can say is that this is an excellent book/manual for anyone interested in creating their own science fiction art work.

This book is exceptionally well illustrated with clear lessons on how this master creates his art. It is a fantastic value and loaded with How-to's for anyone interested on how the design process flows. It's packed with fantastical designs and very inspirational. After going thru this book, you will want to pull out your markers and pens and attempt to create your own designs using Doug's techniques. The instructions are clear and once you get into the flow, the results are amazing. It's soft back so the value is wonderful and stays within the budgets of students and everyday people. I recommend it highly!

I would give this 10 stars if allowed here on Amazon. This book is a marvel. I loved it so much, I've turned to it for my gift to give this year. Excellent and beautiful. 10 stars!!!!

I have a small library of similar "how-to" books on digital and traditional illustration techniques. Mechanika is among the best. Doug Chang spares no detail in sharing how he achieves his often breath-taking results. My only caveat, given Chang's obsession with detail and time-consuming process, is that if you aspire to following in his footsteps be prepared to give up hobbies, exercise and sleep. If you're in a relationship best to have an extremely patient partner.

If you are someone who's interested in concept art, or concept design, you should check this book out. The author goes through his design process step by step. He gives a good methodology for the successful development of the project from the initial stage, through the finished product. Usually all we get to see is the finished piece, and where this book really shines is in how it demystifies the process that the author goes through to create the final piece. Avi Brisman is an Assistant Professor in the School of Justice Studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY, USA. He is co-editor, with Nigel South, of the Routledge International Handbook of Green Criminology (2013), and co-author, with Nigel South, of Green Cultural Criminology: Constructions of Environmental Harm, Consumerism, and Resistance to Ecocide (Routledge, 2014). Nigel South is Professor in the Department of Sociology, University of Essex, UK. He has teaching and research interests in criminology, drug use, and health and environmental issues, and has written extensively on green criminological theory, environmental crime and the concept of ecocide. In 2013, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Society of Criminology’s Division on Critical Criminology. Rob White is Professor of Criminology in the School of Social Sciences, University of Tasmania, Australia.
