A nice book, but overpriced. Considering that the museum doesn't allow photographs (very petty of them -- the National Museum allows photography of its much more extensive collection), this is the best you'll do for a guide to the collection. This wonderful museum deserves a better guide, although this guide is leagues ahead of the paltry offerings at the museum when we visited in 2009.

Martin K.A. Morgan is a historian and expert on the American experience in World War II. He is the author of Down to Earth (Schiffer, 2004) and The Americans on D-Day (Zenith Press, 2014). I would be giving this one the five full stars even if Marty Morgan and I haven't known each other from various historical presentations for seven or eight years now. I was actually Marty's back-up slide flipper when he presented some elements of this work at the 2014 NRA Annual Meeting as "The Guns of D-Day Part II".Anyone with any interest in the Normandy landings has seen some of these pictures before. Marty's genius was to go back to the original negatives in many cases, blow them up bigger, and think about them. Let me explain a perfect example of this. There's a pic of 2nd Division men marching in from Omaha after the landings. It's a known pic. It was the cover of a 1990s paperback edition of Keegan's "The Second World War" that I have had since college. But looking more closely at it, why are a battalion's worth of frontline infantrymen in a M1 Garand-equipped army all carrying M1903 Springfields instead? Marty has found the answer and it is in the book. Repeat that dedication to lost details hundreds of times over, and you have the effort that it took for Marty to assemble "The Americans At D-Day".I don't know if this book could have been done twenty years ago. The book is a large enough format to display the photos well, and modern digital printing brings out the detail. The devil really was in the details this time around, and the details are what makes this book worth every cent.Marty, I'll see you in Nashville in '15 and you're signing this one for me.

While the cover over Americans on D-Day uses one of the best known shots from June 6, 1944 -- of men of the 16th Infantry landing at Easy Red -- this book is a beautiful addition to the huge library of books about D-Day because of the hundreds of pictures, described with clever detail that give the reader a comprehensive picture of the entire American experience during the invasion of Normandy. Pictures of spent 5-inch casings on the deck of the Nevada, small landing craft near supporting cruisers, documentation of the sheer enormity of the effort all give you an exhaustive, comprehensive appreciation for the magnitude. Accompanying these pictures, many of which are in color, are small vignettes and interesting detail that can be studied for hundreds of hours. Martin clearly poured extensive knowledge and years of research into this beautifully crafted book. The chapter focusing on the saga of the American paratroopers at Graignes is one of the finest I have ever read. I am pleased to have added this important volume on D-Day to my World War II bookshelves.

Tells every little detail about the amazing photos. I am always amazed with whatever Morgan presents.I only wish he had been my history teacher years ago. I got a deal on the book, but a problem that might keep folks from buying this great book is the price.

Morgan has written extensive text with superb detail after in-depth interviews with veterans, their families, and also residents and family in Normandy who witnessed these events. I have both of his books and I have no problem stating that they are some of the best I have ever read. I also purchased this book for my grandfather, who was very impressed with it. I can not wait for the next Martin Morgan book :)

I have my Favorites but I always enjoy anything by L'Amour & I buy every book I can find by him....

The stories were as expected. Move well, great descriptions, and enough suspence to keep you interested.

One of my favorite Louis L'Amour western heroes is quiet gunfighter, Lance Kilkenny. L'Amour wrote a trilogy and a few short stories featuring this hero and I have re-read them several times. I was thrilled to catch the first two books in the trilogy put together in audio and on sale.This is the Blackstone Audio Edition and the fabulous Jim Gough narrated. Oh, and just in case yours ends up like mine, the first book in the series, The Rider of Lost Creek and the second, Mountain Valley War, are in reverse order when you click play. No biggie. I just needed to jump to the middle.The Rider of Lost Creek introduces the illusive gunfighter Kilkenny when a range war on the Texas border brings him to the aid of a friend. He soon discovers that there is more going on behind the scenes and the range war might just be the surface not to mention a cold-hearted back-shooting killer is loose on the land. Kilkenny has to be quick with his guns and his mind to keep the situation from turning into a blood bath. At the heart of it all, is Apple Canyon where outlaws hang out and a gorgeous woman who can make even Kilkenny's heart beat faster.The Mountain Valley War sees Kilkenny homesteading peacefully up in a lush mountain valley and not looking for trouble. Then a big ranching operation down in the lowlands figures out that the water and situation is much better in the higher valleys and sets out to drive out Lance and the other homesteaders. Kilkenny must sling on his gunbelt once again and go to war when innocents start getting gunned down by guns for hire. And, he may not be drifting at the end of this battle since the lovely Nita Riordan has waited for him long enough.Jim Gough was a good match for these old-style westerns and I thoroughly enjoyed his lively rendition of both stories. I was glad to have a consistent narrator for both stories since a handful of recurring characters including Kilkenny are present in both.This was quintessential western and just as enjoyable as the first time I encountered them. I love the development of Kilkenny's character even if the others are developed lesser so, the mystery and romance that are often present, but always the thoughtful, descriptive moments and the gritty action scenes.

The second of L'Amours Kilkenny series. Lance Kilkenny is is sick of killing. He is a gunfighter that has always stayed on the right side of a fight, but has amassed a considerable reputation. Kilkenny has just come from a considerable fight that nearly killed him. Deciding that his luck can't hold forever, he changes his name to Trent and settles in the high country above a valley with some other "nesters" who have filed legal claims with the government and are building homes and their dreams, trying to raise their families in peace. The local land baron, "King Bill" Hale, decides even though he owns most of town and all the grass of the valley, he wants the grass at the higher elevations, and is willing to drive the nesters out to get it. A man gets killed while resisting King Bill's eviction notice. Trouble has found Kilkenny, and he eventually has to strap his pistols back on and take on the king of the valley. True, there are not a whole lot of different plots in a western, mostly about land. But, L'Amour does it masterfully, developing the characters, giving us a double-helping of western lore, terrain and a smattering of history to his action-packed story.

I'm reading my husband's books and have been delighted to find that I really enjoy Louis L'Amour. The historical backgrounds are amazing. A Man Called Trent was exciting and interesting and a nice little surprise half way into the book. Mr. L'Amour said he was a story teller and you can tell he enjoyed doing it.

Picks up pretty close to book 3 ending. I wouldn't say this is a standalone because you have to know who these characters are from previous books and Armstrong doesn't waste our time explaining what the backgrounds of all the supporting characters are, which I appreciate more than I can say. We get to meet April, Casey's sister in this and while we are learning about her so is Casey, and it was informative as well a good plot point. April comes to help Kenny from the shooting in book 3, I'm not sure who helps who most in this story. We get a good murder mystery that takes Casey's detective abilities to solve. Always interesting to learn more about these townspeople and the town itself, as well as why they have come to escape their individual world's. Looking forward to the next book.

I have to say I was wondering where this story was going to take us. I really enjoyed the interaction between the characters. What I really like was the fact Armstrong introduced Casey's sister as having Autism. To have Isobel point out the signs to Casey; to make her understand what her sister has gone through and why she seems distant. I can't wait to see how this relationship develops, along with her relationship with Kenny.

Kelley Armstrong build another tight thriller for Casey, Eric and the other characters who reside in Rockton. With each novel more layers are revealed and the reader develops a deeper appreciation of the interplay and dysfunction of this community and its denizens. I eagerly await each new addition to this series. I do recommend reading the novels in order to gain the best understanding of the intricate world building in these novels.

This time we get to meet Alice, Casey's sister. There have been hints about their troubled relationship in previous books, so I really enjoyed getting to know Alice. The best part of these books is the relationships between Eric and Casey, and the main characters in Rockton. I can't get enough or Mathias, and, as usual, there are twists and turns until the very end of the book.

Starting right after book 3, the author takes us back to Rockton and the surrounding forest. Casey & Dalton are up to their eyeballs in crime and even they can't figure out how all this is going to pan out. With her dedication to entertainment, mystery & thrills Kelley Armstrong held me as a servant to her words as they rolled out.

Another fun outing in the Rockton series. Kelley Armstrong writes exciting stories from YA to adult and paranormal to mystery. Lucky us!!!!

I love this series, it is like coming home when I pick up the book. Casey seems to be steeped in dangerous situations. She is in love with Dalton and her puppy, but now she also has her sister, and also friends that fill her life.

I really like this series and really hate waiting for the next in line. The concept is interesting the tension is fantastic. Love the heroine.

The student curriculum was better than I expected. The lessons were easy to understand and easy to teach. Each lesson has a list up front explaining everything you need for the session. This alone is very helpful.As for the lessons, the students in my Sunday School class (11th and 12th graders) are being challenged by new ideas and thoughts. This has led them to really look at their faith and figure out what they truly believe. This alone is essential to them establishing a personal faith and not cling to the faith of their parents.This curriculum is essential to any youth group. In my 12 years of youth ministry, I have watched too many seniors graduate from youth group, go off to college, and wander from their faith. This is a much needed curriculum. Great stuff!

I chose this rating because this curriculum has my high school youth group listening and participating more than most I have used before. The subjects are relevant and encourage students to think deeply about their faith as it relates to their world both now and in the close future of college.

The Sticky Faith books from the Fuller Youth Institute combine quality research with sound, theological teaching in order to help prepare students for college. The lessons in this curriculum are simple to put together, but their content is deep enough to challenge and encourage high school seniors looking to maintain their faith once they leave the youth ministry experience.While most of the curriculum focuses on practical issues that teens will face their first year in college, the first two lessons build a good theological foundation first which helps give weight to following sessions. While this single study won't be a "silver-bullet" for your students' faith to "stick" through college by itself (see the other Sticky Faith resources for more on why), this goes a long way in helping seniors think about their faith for themselves, and what they will do when they encounter struggles and even doubts in their own faith as they leave home.I am currently leading our seniors through this study in the youth group I pastor, and I highly recommend it.
