Returning to Cleveland for a visit a month ago, and the grandson told me we HAVE to go hiking. So I ordered this book prior. Busy schedule only allowed us to get in one, but we picked Chapin Forest, and we were the only ones on the trails for hours. I like both the park hikes and the city hikes, very well done. I'll be sure to use more of the suggested hikes on my next visit.

I enjoyed the book a lot and I'm sure I'll reference it a lot during our lean transformation. Mirco does an excellent job of providing context for the tools and principles in DevOps. Being a long time practitioner of Lean his approach makes a lot of sense. I appreciated the analogy of traditional IT being aligned with Henry Ford's era of manufacturing. However, I wish he would have given more credit to manufacturing for the development of Lean principles.

This is a truly practical companion book to the other leading publications in the DevOps space. Mirco shares real-world lessons from many years of collective experience and provides tried and tested exercises for you to use to help drive insights and improvements in your organization.

Micro has written this book like a gripping novel, providing fact after fact in a concise manner such that you don’t want to put it down. If you want to know what good DevOps looks like then buy this book.

I've been to Big Bend several times and was looking for a book that would point me to some photo ops that were not on the roadway and not on the free map you get on entry to the park. This book was NOT it.If you are a beginning photographer and it's going to be your first trip to Big Bend it's okay. But it lacks concise directions, good maps and, most importantly, offers bad advise. For instance, never use f22 or higher as she recommends. It's not the best f-stop for the sharpest image. Also, never use a circular polarizer on a blue sky with a wide lens, you will get one part of the sky that is deep blue and the other parts will be much lighter.

This book is best for photography novices. The author spends a lot of pages providing basic camera instruction and guidance on how to take photos. If you're on your way to big bend and lack confidence in your technical skills, then this might be the book for you. For more advanced photographers, just be aware that you probably already know the basic photography skills that the author describes (can you describe the difference between shutter, aperture, and ISO?). As for where to go in the park, the author does point out some popular photo spots, what time of day might be best, and what lens might be appropriate. There is room for improvement, however, in the author's description of where the scenic spots are and how best to get there. All in all, it's an okay book.

Many years ago, on a visit to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, I found a photography guide for that park in the gift shop. It helped me to get the most that I could from my short visit to the park. With the book, I was able to be in the right place at the right time for some incredible photos. Ever since that experience, I have wanted a similar book for my favorite National Park in the US – Big Bend. Now I have that book and I can’t wait to try it out. I already have three more on order for friends.Kathy Adams Clark has far exceeded my expectations and written the perfect photographer’s guide to Big Bend National Park. And it is not just for experienced photographers, but for anyone that has a camera and wants to take great photos. Yes, you can use your cell phone camera and get remarkable photos with this book as your guide. The reason is because even though the introduction is dedicated to basic photographic technique, the author does not dwell on how to take a photo. Instead, she takes the reader, chapter by chapter, on a tour of six of the most photogenic areas of the park, pointing out great photo opportunities at many different stops within that area. For each stop, detailed suggestions are given for all three skill levels – simple, intermediate and advanced. While advanced equipment is needed for some of the advanced instructions, almost all can be taken with a simple point and shoot camera.The map in the front of the book helps to pinpoint the specific areas covered, including The Chisos Basin, Panther Junction, Rio Grande Village, Ross Maxwell Drive, Tuff Canyon to Santa Elena Canyon and the High Chisos Mountains. Some of the stops included in the area chapters are The Window, Casa Grande, Boquillas Canyon, Sam Nail Ranch, Sotol Vista, Boot Springs and many, many more. From a few steps out of your car to a moderate hike, all of the places in the book are easy to find.What I like most about this book are all of the tips and creative ideas. An example is in Chapter 5 at the Sublett House. The author warns us that, “The sun can be intense in this area during the middle of the day. Morning or afternoon light is always good.” A tip in Chapter 2 on the Dagger Flats Auto Trail will work for many of the plants in the park, “Get down low and photograph up at the yucca. Photograph down the leaf of a yucca.”It would be best to buy this book before you plan your trip to Big Bend National Park. The book has detailed information about the best time to see and photograph certain features. For example, if you must have a photo of the sunset through The Window, one of the most photographed places in the park, the book will tell you that it is best to be there between May and August when the sun sets at the best angle in the notch between the peaks. But, you can visit the park anytime during the year and this book will reveal amazing views, wildlife and plants to photograph. The book covers all of the seasons and the times of day and even has suggestions of what to do when the weather is not at its best.In addition to all of the information about each of the locations, the book has a bonus chapter on night photography in the park. Big Bend National Park is a dream location for night photography. On most nights, the skies are incredibly clear. The Milky Way is bright and beautiful among the millions of visible stars. First of all, I loved my week in Big Bend National Park. It is an amazing place in which you can relax, take your time and just photograph the beauty that you find there. This book is detailed in not just explaining the very basic sights to see and possibly photograph with examples with wonderful pictures but with settings and tips for all levels of photographers, be they novices with point and shoot to advanced shooters. Great book and will use the advice for other shooting scenarios. The tips are there and can apply to any outdoor shooting.

This book came on time and with no damage. The book is all anyone will need for photographing Big Bend. It has many beautiful pictures and a lot of photographic tips,is well organized and easy to read!!! This book will help me a lot on my trip to Big Bend National Park!! I would highly recommend it for anyone going to Big Bend,even if your're not taking pictures.

A photo book that has a fake picture on the front cover is reason enough to diss this book. (an insect showing in the LCD panel of the camera???) I gave up on reading this after the first page of the second chapter had a typo. (caption for photo pg. 39) Was this book edited?I"m not sure why so many basic photo techniques are included in a guide for photographing a specific area. Most people that are going to purchase a guide to photograph an area will be educated in basic photography techniques. This is just fluff and filler, and many of the "tips" are just wrong. The photos for the most part were very unispiring and showed little technical knowledge of landscape photography.I was expecting a guide for photographers that showed more precise locations and directions....Not a book filled with "tips" for beginners..

The content of Roark's Formulas is very handy for a desk reference type book and is referred to in many other works like Marks' Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers and Design of Weldments and Design of Welded Structures by Omer Blodgett.My copy of the 7th edition looks like the pages were crooked when they were cut to size. The text on left hand pages is tilted to the top left and the right pages are tilted to the top right. Most likely when the stack of printed material was in the size cutter it wasn't squared properly because every page is turned the exact same amount. It doesn't affect the readability of anything it just looks odd because you almost think you're holding the book crooked sine the text isn't parallel to the top and bottom edges.The paper isn't the slick, durable type used in McGraw Hill's other reference books like Marks' Std Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, so combined with the crooked page trim I would rate the physical appearance sub-par. I expect better from a professional level book from McGraw Hill.

The usefulness of this book does not require many words. It has most any formula you'll need with plenty of options for boundary conditions of the situation. I ordered this as "good condition" and that was an accurate description: it's a little rough, but has all the information in it. If you want a pristine book, go with new, but realize the information in it is still the same as a used one, just ignore the underlines, etc. The rating is for the book, however, and it is great.

I have three editions of this book: the classic 4th edition, the useless 5th edition and this, the 7th edition.The 4th edition has simple format, is easy to use, but lacks methods for more sophisticated hand analyses and is sparse on explanations. The 5th is best used for a doorstop.This edition is an excellent combination of the usefullness of the 4th edition with modern and more advanced methods.The layout of each section has excellent explanatory material and provides the simple 4th edition type equations backed with more involved/advanced formulas which are very useful.My hat is off to the authors. This is probably the best reference for those nasty stress and deflection hand calculations we all have to do from time to time.

An engineering standard.

At first I thought this book is good for someone who have just started to learn solid mechanics. I found that it is not.However,This is such a great reference book.Everything about stress and strain is in here. There are many formulas and table for various shapes and types of member and joint. This is good for a mechnical and civil engineer.

I bought this when I was working in Engineering, great reference book......

The book is a complete review of the most used formulas of the structural engineering.I appreciate very much Part 2 dealing with principles and methods in a very short nevertheless comprehensive way and giving references too. Moreover Part 3 is giving additional theory which is very useful for a correct use of the formulas.It is a very powerful tool for quick preliminary design of mechanical structures and components.I would like to have an additional chapter dealing with shock and vibrations.

Wasn't acceptable for book return at my school, so bear that in mind before purchasing. Still using this after graduation as reference.

Bought this for my first year of law school. Awesome book to learn property law. Could use a supplement or two to get a better understanding of the big picture because this is basically a compilation of property law cases but as long as you are good at pulling the rule of the case then you will be okay using this for your class. In fact, my professor assigned it for us to buy.

This book lays out the material so simply it's almost an insult to your intelligence. I had a full year of property law. First semester I used the Aspen series (big red book) casebook that contained virtually nothing more than the cases themselves with virtually no explanations. Switching to this book was a night and day difference. This book clearly explains the concepts and even has a few little charts throughout to help!My advice: consider supplementing this book with the "Understanding Property Law" published by LexisNexis.

Very well written book and lots of interesting tid bits scattered

This is certainly different than other casebooks-- its a more "modern" view which is easier to read and organizes the material great! However, my prof frequently utilizes both common-law and modern trends, and this book is not very descriptive as to the distinction (and the cases are not very good either). I realize that casebooks are not designed to just "give you the rule and tests," but this attempts to do so, and as result, I relied upon these vague explanations to my detriment.Nonetheless, it is a quite different "approach" to casebooks and, for the most part, I concur. I would look into buying a supplement if you're looking for a more detailed version of the rules/tests.

I have had to use both books for two semester's worth of property. I love the sprankling text because it is much more understandable. It provides great explanations of concepts in addition to the case law. Thank you Sprankling! This semester of property will go much better.

Light marking but it wasn't distracting

This book is refreshing to read among other law school texts. It is concise and clearly written. There are also a lot of examples included and an interesting online, interactive addition for the new versions.
